Wales U16 v England U15
May 28, 2015, 8:43 pm

Congratulations to James Large who was selected to play for Wales against England last weekend in an International friendly at Ystrad Fach LC.

It was a fast and physical encounter and following a close first half the larger England side took control of the second half winning  with some ease.

Well done to James from everyone at the club.

Annual Presentation Night
May 14, 2015, 6:04 pm

The annual presentation night has been arranged at The Rhondda Bowl (opposite the leisure centre) on Monday 6th July at 6.00pm... The cost of the evening will be £10 per child and this will include a game of bowling, meal and a medal for each player...

The main presentation will take place after the meal and trophies will be awarded at each age group for most improved player and player of the year....

The evening has proved very successful over the last few years and is definately not one to miss.. Training on this evening will be cancelled so it is hoped that everyone will be available to attend... The evening normally finishes around 8.30pm

It would be appreciated if payment in full could be given to Dave, Mandy or Geraint ASAP.

Wales v Northern Ireland U15's
May 4, 2015, 10:02 pm

James Large, Jordan Williams & Rhys Evans travelled to Belfast over the May Bank Holiday weekend and competed in a series of 3 games against a highly skilled and very physical Northern Ireland team.

This was the first experience of International basketball for all but two of the team (James being one of them having recently returned with the U16 team from San Marino).

The first game was played on Saturday afternoon (with most of the boys being up since 4am to travel to Belfast !!!!), and this showed as Wales suffered a 66-35 defeat. No-one was expecting the pace and skill level shown by the Irish players.

However after a good nights sleep and a good team talk by the coaches, Sunday was a new day.

Back to back games were played Sunday afternoon and although both resulted in defeat, Game 2...79-45 & Game 3... 70-53, it was obvious that the boys were adjusting to the higher level of play with improvement in each game...

There was a great team spirt throughout the weekend and our boys were a credit to the club... It was a proud moment to see all three players on the court together in the last quarter of the final game.

Finally during an awards presentation before the players left for the airport James was voted MVP by the coaching staff for his performance in the first game and Rhys was voted MVP for his performance in the last game....

Well done to all three...

U10 SWBA CUP TOURNAMENT
May 3, 2015, 10:23 pm

Tigers U10's played in the SWBA U10 Cup Tournament today at Cardiff Metropolitan University, and fought their way to the Final. They recorded wins over Aberystwyth Warriors and a draw with Baglan Blazers in the first pool matches, followed by a loss against Pontyprid Panthers and then facing Baglan Blazers again in the semi Final. That match like the earlier draw with Baglan Blazers was a bruising encounter, but we ran out winners by 19 to 16. In the Final we faced Pontypridd Panthers again, and although we have beaten them in the U10 Finals and won the Cup last season and the previous season....todays Final belonged to Panthers as they beat us convincingly. I and the parents are very proud of all the players because they didn't give up at all, particularly when they fought their way past Baglan in the Semi Final.

GOOD LUCK TO JAMES, JORDAN AND RHYS
May 1, 2015, 11:59 am

Three of our U16 squad, James Large, Jordan Williams and Rhys Evans have been selected to represent Wales in an U15 International Tournament in Belfast this weekend. Well done lads, we know you will do us proud...and good luck from everyone in the Club.

April Roundup
May 1, 2015, 11:18 am

At U16 we recorded a big win over Gladiators at home and had two matches awarded to us against Newbridge Raiders and Vale of Glamorgan Vipers. Unfortunately, these results were not enough to give us a place in the Final Fours Play Off tournament, as we slipped to 6th place in the final league placings.

At U14, we recorded another big win away at Gladiators, but we were brought down to earth with a bump when we went to the U14 SWBA Cup tournament on 26th April....when all we came away with was 3 hammerings 1 win and 1 draw. Got a lot to do at this age level to bring our team up to scratch.

At U12, we had two wins over Gladiators and Panthers in our Central Venue tournament, and I hoped we would give a good showing in the U12 SWBA Cup tournament in Cardiff on 03/05....but unfortunately we have had to withdraw because so many of our players are unavailable due to the bank holiday.

At U10 we have had no tournaments during April, but we are at the U10 SWBA Cup tournament on 03/05 at Cardiff Met University, and as Cup Winners the last two seasons I am hopeful we will have another good tournament.

March Roundup
Apr 19, 2015, 7:37 pm

March was another busy month, all the scores are shown on the Fixtures and Results tab.

Our U16's played 3 away league matches, but lost them all, although I am pleased to say that we played really well in all three matches, but we were really beaten by size. At home we played one U16 league matches which we won in a real nail biter.

Our U14's played RCT Gladiators and recorded a big win. They were also awarded a match against Baglan Blazers 0-20.

At U12 age group, all bar two of our players failed to turn up at a tournament at Gladiators so we forfeited both matches 20-0....not our finest moment !

Our U10's participated in two tournaments and were undefeated in 6 games.....well done the little uns.

February Roundup
Mar 7, 2015, 6:33 pm

Full results and scores on the Fixtures and Results page.

We played an U18 friendly at a new team starting up in Merthyr Tydfil. We ran out comfortable winners even though we have only 2 x U18 players and had to make up the numbers with U16's. Merthyr had a few talented players but their knowledge of the rules and the dicipline of some players was poor and they have some work to do on these aspects before they are ready to play in organised competitions.

In the U16 league we had only one fixture during the month.....RCT Gladiators and Newbridge Raiders postponing. We lost quite heavily in that fixture at home to Cougars although we fought well all the way through the game.

We hosted an U14 triangular tournament, but unfortunately couldn't field enough players for a team ourselves, so had to ask Panthers to take our place. Panthers won the tournament and we had two technical 0-20 losses recorded against us. We have some work to do to get our U14 team viable !

Our U12's attended a triangular tournament at Panthers and ran out winners in both matches.
